Self Defence & Fitness

Self Defence & Fitness
Restrictions:
NONE
Self Defence & Fitness class is suitable for anyone interested. There is no prior knowledge or fitness level necessary.
Difficulty Level:
    -    
These classes are made according to your needs and wishes, the difficulty level will be up to you.
What to expect:
You choose the ratio of Self Defence and Fitness part.
Intensity of the fitness part is completely up to you
Self Defence part of the class is designed to introduce you to simple, but effective techniques, self defence principles and lots and lots of practise
Additional Info:
It is important that you understand, that even knowing self defence techniques you may not be able to perform any of them in stress situation, therefore repetition of a given technique is very important and should not be considered as boring.

Karate Training

Karate Training

Several forms of karate training are available, please read the limitations prior to enquiries.


- Chubu Shorin Ryu -

Restrictions:
NONE
There are no age restrictions, however common sense applies. Suitable for everyone.
Difficulty Level:
Moderate difficulty, due to the nature of Shorin Ryu karate especially your legs may feel a little tired after first couple of classes.
What to expect:
SFMA's students are welcome to use these sessions as a one-on-one tutorials.
For non SFMA's students these sessions are a good way for a slow start prior to joining the dojo, but don't worry, to join SFMA is not required at any point if taking these lessons.
Additional Info:
Karate takes years to practise, however you can use these sessions as an addition to your training in SFMA with emphasis on more details with the advantage of one-on-one training.
It is a good option for young children to first start karate.
If you like to learn at your own pace, need shorter or longer sessions, don't have the time to attend during regular karate classes or whatever the reason may be you can always start with these private lessons.

The following styles are offered to SFMA's students only

- Shotokan Ryu -

Restrictions:
5th kyu ranking (green belt) for students under 15 years old
7th kyu ranking (yellow belt) for students over 15 years old
Difficulty Level:
    -    
Physical level of difficulty is equal to SFMA's classes
Mild challenge to adapt to a different style may occur.
What to expect:
You can learn Shotokan Ryu style in addition to your Chubu Shorin Ryu training with the understanding that this training gives you additional knowledge that should not be confused or practised during SFMA training.
Additional Info:
There will be no ranking in Shotokan Ryu style, only limited selection of katas will be available for students to learn.

- Koga Ryu Kobujutsu -

Restrictions:
7th kyu ranking (yellow belt) for all students
Difficulty Level:
Moderate-hard difficulty - your arms may feel tired after first couple of lessons as you are to manipulate weapons during the training.
What to expect:
Depending on your current level in Koga Ryu training you may start with basic handling techniques of different weapons, learn additional kata or application.
Additional Info:
Progress through the ranks may be achieved by consistent work and achieved knowledge.

- Matsumura Seito Shorin Ryu -

Restrictions:
3rd kyu ranking (brown belt) for all students
Difficulty Level:
Moderate challenge - although the pattern seen in katas is very similar to your standard Chubu Shorin Ryu style taught in SFMA, the techniques differ slightly with emphasis on speed rather than power.
What to expect:
This is a journey through whole new style and tradition.
Additional Info:
Progress through the ranks may be achieved by consistent work and achieved knowledge.

Tournament Preparation

Restrictions:
students must be self motivated
Difficulty Level:
    -    
Moderate-hard - lesson may be hard and challenging, big emphasis will be taken on stances and every detail of each technique.
Fitness training may be part of your lesson
What to expect:
Self motivation is necessary, as every mistake will be pointed out, which may prove discouraging, however we train to perfection, therefore all hard work should pay off with a decent result in your tournament.

Preparation for sparring or kata is available, please talk to Sensei after class for details.
